UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Student Farm Club invites the campus and community to shop their plants for the upcoming growing season at its 11th annual Plant Sale. The club will sell a wide selection of vegetables and succulents, including Pennsylvania natives. The sale will take place Friday, May 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tyson greenhouses on Curtin Road at University Park campus. There will be no shortage of plants, so guests can stop by at any time throughout the sale and shop a wide selection of options.
There will be over 11,000 seedlings which consist of more than 100 varieties of vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, plants grown from saved seeds, native plants, and succulents. Back by popular demand, selection will feature many new varieties that are well-suited for container gardening on a balcony or patio.
The Horticulture Club will also be on site at the sale, offering fresh flower bouquets, and the Ceramics Club will provide hand-made ceramic pots for some of the succulents. Locally-adapted vegetable varieties will also be available.
“Being the Plant Sale Manager is really amazing; it’s super rewarding seeing all of the plants grown from seeds to plant, and that we get to help the Farm Club and our mission” Alex Schultes, Student Farm Club Treasurer and Plant Sale Manager said.
Shoppers should bring their own box or bag to carry plants in, as well as cash or check for payment. If driving to campus, we encourage you to park in the East parking deck, which offers $1/hour visitor parking.
New this year, the Student Farm Club is working with the State College Food Bank to promote growing of vegetables that are in high demand and low supply to clients at the Food Bank throughout the year. We encourage Plant Sale guests to consider adding a few extra plants to your gardens this year to give back to our community in this way.
