Gardeners of all ages, experience levels and garden sizes are invited to learn new gardening tips and skills and get their hands dirty at the Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm’s upcoming Garden Grow-How! Whether you are a first-time gardener or an experienced grower with seeds and advice to share, the Garden Grow-How will offer many activities for you to enjoy. The event will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21 at Heritage Hall, inside the HUB-Robeson Center on the Penn State campus.

The Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm is collaborating with the Penn State Community Garden, an Agricultural Extension and Education course, the LEAD society, the Media Commons, Student Farm Club and other partners to host the Grow-How. This diverse team is working to ensure that the event has activities for everyone, including gardening ideas for people living in small spaces like dorm rooms. Stations will include a vermiculture demonstration with live worms, succulent planting, botanical crafts, seed swapping and more.

Anyone interested in gardening, from both campus and the wider community are welcome, including families and children. There will be several stations with activities and crafts geared especially toward kids. Paid parking is available to visitors in the HUB parking deck.

Leslie Pillen, associate director of farm and food systems, is leading students and partners to organize the event.

“We’re excited to invite the campus and community to explore gardening methods that they may have never seen before,” Pillen said. “Growing your own food can transform your eating habits and relationship with nature, and we hope to demonstrate just how accessible and fun it can be.”

There will also be a garden supplies prize drawing for attendees! Prizes include perennial fruit bushes, gardening books, garden hand tools, and other growing supplies, which have been generously donated by Chelsea Green Publishing, Fox Hill Gardens, Nolt’s Produce Supply, Home Depot, Lowe’s and the Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm.
